3D printed parts
Not needed. Not needed; all frame parts come molded in the kit. Petoi posts a few STLs (for example a Bittle thigh) for repairs, but warns printed thighs fit worse than molded ones. Files: https://github.com/PetoiCamp/NonCodeFiles/tree/master/stl
Mistakes builders make
- Buy the alloy servo version if you might add the arm later; Petoi says the lite servos cannot carry it.
- Servos are brushed and wear out; Petoi sells 10-servo sets and suggests spares for heavy use.
- Charge through the port on the battery, not the board, with a plain 5V 1A charger. The battery does not power the robot while charging.
- On BiBoard V0, a weak fuse (X30/X70) can stop servos moving while voice still works; V1 boards fix this, and the arm needs the fuse bridged on V0.
- Servo plugs must go in with the dark (GND) wire nearest the board; reversed plugs can burn the chip.
- If a servo buzzes but does not turn, its motor gear may have slipped; Petoi's FAQ shows how to press it back into mesh.
- Calibrate every joint after assembly; the calibration stand or the desktop app's calibrator speeds this up.
FAQ
How much does it cost to build the Petoi Bittle X?
About $319 to $469 in parts at current prices, Bittle X is a kit, not a from-scratch build: the frame is injection molded and sold only in kits. Low end is the V2 lite-servo construction kit; high end is the pre-assembled X+Arm. Add a 5V 1A USB charger. Buying the board, servos and battery as spares costs more than a kit..
Do I need a 3D printer for the Petoi Bittle X?
No printed parts are needed for the standard build.
Is there a kit for the Petoi Bittle X?
Yes: Petoi, Petoi, Petoi, Petoi, RobotShop, RobotShop. Check what each kit leaves out before ordering.
