3D printed parts
Needed. Chassis, camera mount, and a caster base plus shroud that match your wheel size (60 or 65 mm). PLA works; about 10 to 12 hours and under 100 g of filament. Clean support out of the motor sockets and file tight openings. Files: https://github.com/NVIDIA-AI-IOT/jetbot/tree/master/docs/cad
Mistakes builders make
- The original Jetson Nano dev kit is discontinued. NVIDIA's docs now point new builds to the Orin Nano BOM, but say the Orin software is still a work in progress, and an open issue asking for Orin support has no answer.
- On the Orin power bank setup, NVIDIA advises the 7W power mode (sudo nvpmodel -m 1); in 15W mode the board shut down when the motors jumped from stop to full speed or stalled.
- The Orin BOM's battery link went dead (issue #654). Any 10,000 mAh bank with 20W USB-C PD should work; check it fits the battery bay.
- If Robot() fails with an I2C Remote I/O error, check that SDA and SCL are not swapped and re-check the PiOLED header solder joints.
- The motor FeatherWing sits at I2C address 0x60, not 0x40 like PCA9685 servo boards; use that when probing with i2cdetect.
- You need a soldering iron: the FeatherWing headers and the PiOLED header are not pre-soldered.
- The Orin carrier uses 22-pin CSI connectors; make sure your camera ships with or gets a 22-pin cable.
FAQ
How much does it cost to build the NVIDIA JetBot (Orin Nano version)?
About $525 to $575 in parts at current prices, Current Orin BOM with the Jetson Orin Nano Super dev kit at $399 (it launched at $249; NVIDIA raised Jetson prices in July 2026). Low end counts only the screws and strips one robot uses; high end buys the full hardware packs. Excludes 3D printing (about $2 of PLA, or a print service), shipping and tax. The original Jetson Nano dev kit ($99 in the old BOM) is discontinued..
Do I need a 3D printer for the NVIDIA JetBot (Orin Nano version)?
Yes. Chassis, camera mount, and a caster base plus shroud that match your wheel size (60 or 65 mm). PLA works; about 10 to 12 hours and under 100 g of filament. Clean support out of the motor sockets and file tight openings.
Is there a kit for the NVIDIA JetBot (Orin Nano version)?
